The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has begun preparations to take its presidential endorsement and membership registration exercise to the grassroots across the Acholi Sub-region.
The development follows the launch of the PLU’s Acholi Sub-region endorsement programme in Gulu City, with the organisation now expected to extend the exercise to districts, sub-counties and local communities.
The initiative is part of PLU’s wider nationwide campaign seeking public endorsements for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba ahead of the 2031 presidential election. PLU has also been expanding its membership structures and registration system across the country.
According to a report published on September 26, 2026, PLU leadership in Kitgum District resolved to participate in the Acholi regional launch before taking the endorsement and membership registration exercise to the grassroots. The district leadership reportedly discussed preparations during a meeting at the Kitgum Resident District Commissioner’s office.
Grassroots mobilisation
The Acholi exercise is expected to involve PLU structures working at district, constituency, sub-county and community levels.
PLU’s organisational structure lists Hon. Ojara Martin Mapenduzi as the organisation’s Acholi sub-regional coordinator. The movement says its wider structure includes sub-regional coordinators and district-level structures intended to coordinate activities across the country.
The grassroots approach comes as PLU continues to expand its membership registration system. The organisation’s official membership platform allows applicants to provide their district, sub-county or town, parish and village details as part of registration. PLU says membership is free and open to Ugandans at home and in the diaspora.
Endorsement and membership registration
The registration drive combines two related activities: enrolling people into PLU structures and recording individual endorsements for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 2031 presidential bid.
PLU’s official endorsement platform allows individuals to record their support by providing personal and district information. The organisation says individual National Identification Number details are kept privately while only combined endorsement figures are displayed publicly.
The movement has been conducting similar grassroots activities in other parts of Uganda. In September, PLU launched an endorsement campaign in the Sebei Sub-region, covering Kapchorwa, Kween and Bukwo, while registration activities have also been reported in the Lango Sub-region.
Acholi becomes part of wider national exercise
The Acholi rollout comes as PLU intensifies its national mobilisation ahead of the next presidential election cycle.
The organisation has publicly described itself as a civic movement focused on patriotism, national unity, service and national development, while its current activities include the presidential endorsement campaign for 2031.
As the exercise moves into Acholi’s sub-counties and communities, local PLU structures are expected to play a central role in registering members and collecting endorsements.
The grassroots phase is likely to provide PLU with a more detailed picture of its organisational presence across the region as the movement continues building structures beyond district headquarters.
For residents participating in the exercise, PLU’s official platforms provide separate processes for membership registration and presidential endorsement. The organisation’s membership platform records local administrative details, while the endorsement platform records support for the 2031 presidential bid.
