Acholi Province is considering petitioning the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) over a disputed goal scored by Buganda Province in their FUFA Drum encounter, despite Acholi securing a 2:1 victory.
The controversy centres on Buganda’s goal, scored by Vianne Ssekajugo in the 24th minute, which Acholi reportedly believes was handled before entering the net and should therefore have been disallowed and given card.
According to the Acholi Football Association head coach, the team’s technical staff are reviewing the incident as they consider the next course of action.
Despite claiming victory, the match ended amid complaints over the central referee’s decisions, with concerns about the officiating nearly triggering a confrontation as some fans threatened to enter the field of play.
Hon Dr Gilbert Olanya Questions Refereeing
Kilak South Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr Gilbert Olanya, commended supporters from both provinces for their discipline throughout the encounter but questioned the fairness of the referee’s decisions.
Olanya praised the fans for maintaining order despite the tension surrounding the match, while expressing concern over what he described as questionable officiating.
He also pledged continued support for the Acholi team as they prepare for the return leg, scheduled to take place in Lugazi on 4 October 2026.
FUFA Yet to Issue Official Statement
At the time of publication, FUFA had not issued an official statement addressing the disputed goal or the complaints surrounding the referee’s performance.
However, the football governing body had posted the match result through its official FUFA Drum account on X, confirming the 2:1 scoreline in favour of Acholi.
The potential petition is expected to bring renewed attention to the disputed incident, although the final position of the governing body remains unknown.
Return Leg in Lugazi
Attention now shifts to the second leg in Lugazi on 4 October 2026, where both provinces will have another opportunity to compete as the FUFA Drum campaign continues.
The disputed goal and the reported concerns over officiating could remain key talking points ahead of the next encounter, as supporters await further clarification from the relevant football authorities.
For now, Acholi have the 2–1 victory, but questions surrounding Buganda’s goal remain unresolved.
